TRANSPARENSCENES

Air-filled structures fabricated in transparent PVC which have aerial performances suspended high inside, apparently on nothing but a column of light. After dark, the lighting reflects and refracts, creating ghostly images which match the hypnotic beauty of the dancer. While making plans to expand this area we are currently touring two shows:

The Candle
Nine metres high and shaped like a giant candle, this is the smaller of the two. The soundtrack uses as its inspiration a palindrome in latin “In girum imus noctes et cosumimur igni” meaning “In spirals we fly by night and are consumed by the flames”. The aerial dancer inside creates melancholic images of a trapped moth and viewed in the round the audience recognise that by the end of the show, they too have gathered like moths around a flame.

Diamond
Evoking lines of gothic vaulted ceilings, this structure has resonances from the past but is definitely something from the future. Filling with air from flat, it inverts, and, lifting the aerialist with it, the Diamond creates images of a giant unfolding orchid before achieving a full 11m high, a taut crystalline form. Lighting changes colour on the internal and external facets while the aerialist dances at seven metres high inside.
From 2007 this show will be available floating on water.

The Cauldron
A new 20 minute show, wordless and set to music. The audience gather around an 11m air-filled ring a metre high which smokes like a giant pot. Three characters emerge in burned and still smouldering costumes and perform an eccentric routine bouncing around the edge of the Cauldron. Some are very skilled in acrobatics and some… not.
Interacting with the audience they persuade them to project wishes on to scraps of paper and on a big musical moment they all throw them into the cauldron. Smoke lights and pyro and the Diamond begins to emerge. At full height an enchanting aerial dancer high up inside bewitches the audience. A flash, the lights go out for a second and when they return she is gone…
